Situation/Genre Intersection Project

Your major writings will consist of three projects.  The last of the three is going to be the integrated assignments that you will work on in all three courses.  The other two genres are to be determined by you as you continue the research process.  To help you grasp an overall idea of this: the three projects will focus on your topic that you choose to research.  From there you will consider what your audiences will be and work in the correct genre for each.  Like the log, do not overthink this assignment.  We will analyze this more as the semester continues.

Integrated Assignment

Proposal

The Integrated Assignment counts in all of your courses! We will be working on certain aspects of the assignment in Composition such as research, proposal, creating, editing, peer reviewing, etc.

The I.A. proposal is exactly that...a proposal for your Integrated Assignment. In it you will do three things:

1) Address the need for the political, economic, or social change/issue that your law is centered.

2) Provide evidence showing that your change is, indeed, needed.

3) Explain/state the law that you wish to enact.

Formatting info: 1 pg, 12 pt. font, 1 in. margins, MLA citations

You will be creating a federal law that would enact significant change.  The key is that it must be supported by evidence.  Does it address an issue that the Constitution doesn't or does "right a wrong" that already exists in the document.

You will essentially define an issue or problem.  You will also discuss who would "locally" support your Amendment and who would oppose it.  (Local as in city, state, political party, special interest group, etc.)

Here are some questions to address in your Integrated Assignment:

1. In your own words, describe a potential new Federal Law that you feel could address a significance concern facing modern Americans. Be sure to explain why the reform is significant. (At least 2-3 sources)

2. Describe the rights provided in this Federal Law. Why do you feel it necessary to explicitly guarantee this right to American citizens?

3. How does this Federal Law work with existing Laws? What impact do you foresee this Federal Law having on American citizens? Does it add something that is omitted? (2 sources on existing laws)

4. Who, in your opinion, would support and oppose the Federal Law and why?

You must use 4-5 sources.

Must be 3-5 pages, double spaced, with Works Cited attached in MLA format.

Basically, based on the research you preform throughout the semester you will create three writing projects, which take into consideration the needs of three different audiences you wish to address. By this point in the semester, you will understand that you are identifying how you want to use what you are learning from your research, and from each class in our learning community, to advocate, organize, and/or finding the significance of people, events, and ideas. More details will be given as the we progress through the course.

First Two Genres

You will use the research that supports the entire Situation/Genre Intersection project to create two genres to support the Integrated Assignment of creating a Federal Law.

  • Who are your audiences?

  • What types of genres target these audiences?

  • How would you propose the Federal Law in other genres?

Proposal

Part A of the proposal proposes the first two audiences and genres.

Use the template we revised as a class! I sent this to your TAMUCC email.
