Warm Up/Research Entry #5

For your next entry, pick one source from your 4th entry.  I recommend copying and pasting the following onto a Word document. 

​

  • What is your research question(s)?

  • Date and time spent for each of your research sessions

  • Keywords you use for each search; how you determined them.

  • Tools: databases, search engines, reference from other source, etc.

  • List author, title, and the link to the source for each result you consulted / read / or determined as useful

  • Notes for each source, recording what you thought was useful / interesting; including quotes, paraphrases, data, etc. that contributes to your learning.

  • For any individual items you identify in your search sessions, be sure you record necessary information to find these sources of information again (permalinks, URLs, author, title, publisher, date, page #s, etc.)

    • For individual items (article, web page, chapter, news report, image, etc.) that you investigate further (read, skim, etc.), write yourself a note that summarizes what the item contributes to your learning. Copy significant quotes or data. These are notes for you, so you can remember what you are learning.​

Their Eyes Are Watching God Study Guide Workshop

Get into groups of 4 and pull out the question and answer from the study guide.  Discuss your answers.  As you discuss the answers, make sure to pay attention to details, historical context, and specific information from the text.

Reading Response Discussion

What to keep doing:

  • Responding!

  • Understanding the concept through writing about it...

  • Demonstrating your effort through writing

What to improve upon:

  • What is the situation? Audience, Purpose, Writer...How does his effect your response?​​

  • Use of textual evidence

  • Using details and specifics about what you are trying to say.  Try articulating what you took away from the reading.

Write the following and turn into the Blackboard Discussion Forum: Portfolio Practice #1

a) Pick one learning outcome from our Course Information section.

​

b) For the learning outcome, provide the following:

  • Explain what the outcome means without

  • One piece of evidence from work done for this class: How does it show that you have worked towards achieving this outcome?

  • One Habit of Mind: how it supports this outcome and piece of evidence

  • One Key Term: how it supports this outcome and piece of evidence

Please try to be as explicit as possible.  I DO not expect you to get this right the first time but I am asking to see your effort.  

 

c) Respond to one other classmate by offering two things you liked and two things that can be improved upon.

The two learning outcome explanations are due on Monday, February 20th by 11:59pm.

Response to 2 other classmates is due by Tuesday, February 21st by 11:59pm.
