What Are We Doing Today?

  • Today's Goals

  • Warm Up

  • Midterm Portfolio Workshop

  • Homework

Today's Goals

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain what they have learned from being a novice in new writing situations, and describe how these experiences, which might include failure, contribute to their willingness to accept new challenges as a writer.

  • Identify how their views of writing have changed as a result of the work they have done in the course.

Habits of Mind

  • Metacognition is fostered when writers are encouraged to use what they learn from reflections on one writing project to improve writing on subsequent projects.

  • Responsibility is fostered when writers are encouraged to act on the understanding that learning is shared among the writer and others—students, instructors, and the institution, as well as those engaged in the questions and/or fields in which the writer is interested.

Key Terms

  • Composing Processes: planning, researching, drafting, sharing and responding, revising, editing, publishing, reflecting

  • Reflection, metacognition, transfer/expansion

Warm Up

Go to the feedback you received for the Midterm Reflective Overview. Revise based on that feedback!

Midterm Portfolio Workshop

Work on the Midterm Portfolio! Be sure that you have all your ducks in a row!

Reflective Overview Tips-These are based on what I am seeing in the work of the students who have visited me..

  • Be sure that you are not repeating pieces of evidence unless you have an absolutely a valid reason!

  • Instead of just generally saying Reading Responses or Discovery Logs, point to specific ones. Which Discovery Log? Which Reading Response? Different entries can demonstrate different outcomes, habits of mind, key terms.

  • Be sure that you are connecting the habits of mind, key terms, and the readings to the Learning Outcome and the evidence you are providing!

  • Be sure that you are being metacongitive in your reflecting! Why were the choices you made appropriate or not? The cognitive aspect is describing what the assignment is, the purpose, audience, etc.

  • Be sure that you are discussing the purposes of the evidence.

  • Be sure that if you are including evidence from other courses, you are putting those into a folder in your Drive so that you may link to it!

If you already finished your Midterm Portfolio (yaasssss!!!), you could start working on the next Discovery Log perhaps? Or look at Thursday's plan?
