Today's Goals

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate their ability to collaborate effectively as members of diverse teams / groups of writers,

  • Demonstrate control of situation-appropriate conventions of writing

Habit(s) of Mind

  • Responsibility is fostered when writers are encouraged to act on the understanding that learning is shared among the writer and others—students, instructors, and the institution, as well as those engaged in the questions and/or fields in which the writer is interested

  • Metacognition is fostered when writers are encouraged to connect choices they have made in texts to audiences and purposes for which texts are intended

Key Terms

  • Composing Processes: planning, researching, drafting, sharing and responding, revising, editing, publishing, reflecting

  • Genre and genre conventions

Warm Up

On your running Google doc for Warm Up's, respond to the following:

  • Looking back at this semester, what is some advice you would give to another student about to take this class?

    • What is something you wish you knew on the first day of this class?

Final RO Workshop

Your final portfolio will be due at the end of day on Friday, December 6th! (You're welcome!) There is a rubric draft posted in Blackboard which I will be using to access the final portfolio.

For the Final RO, be sure to be looking at your midterm portfolio rubric.

  • Be sure that you are incorporating evidence from all of the LC B courses.

  • For the pieces of evidence you chose, reflect on those by addressing the choices you made in that particular assignment and why or why were those not appropriate.

  • This RO should look different than the midterm. Different pieces of evidence, more in depth reflecting, different SLO's, etc.

  • For the connections to the readings in the RO & Discovery Logs:

    • how are you seeing the reading concepts in the choices you made for that particular assignment?

    • What choices did you make in the research and how does that connect to the FIL concept?

The template for the Final RO can be found in Blackboard>Readings & Templates.

For the SURVEY REFLECTION portion of the RO:

  • For the questions that related to the concepts from this course, look critically at your responses and think critically of your understanding of those concepts today. Reflecting on your experience in this LEARNING community, discuss the role that being in a learning community helped to develop your understanding of those concepts.

    • In which ways is being a member of the learning community cultivate your learning? Why or why not?

    • Imagine having to take the same large lecture course without being linked to other courses, how would NOT being linked to other classes affected your learning/engagement with large lecture content?

  • Look at your answers (from the survey you got back in lecture a couple of weeks ago) connected to questions related to learning while you were in high school.

    • How did those high school experiences shape your learning experiences in the learning community?

    • Did you employ those same high school practices and skills for the learning community courses?

    • Did your strategies to work towards mastery of the course content evolve? Why or why not?

    • In examining the ways in which you said you gain access to communication information and ideas, how have you noticed changes or more continuity in how you consume and communicate ideas/information.

    • Finally, you were asked what you hoped to “get out of” this course. In reading your response, did you get from the course what you were expecting? Why or why not?

      • In which ways has this Learning Community challenged you or challenged what you expected of college?

      • Knowing what you do now about this LC, what advice would you give yourself on the first day of classes?

      • Regarding this LC, how have the choices you made been either appropriate or ineffective?
