Today's Goals

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate their ability to analyze different rhetorical situations (in academic, workplace, or civic contexts),

Habits of Mind

  • Persistence is fostered when writers are encouraged to commit to exploring, in writing, a topic, idea, or demanding task

  • Flexibility is fostered when writers are encouraged to approach writing assignments in multiple ways, depending on the task and the writer’s purpose and audience

Key Terms

  • Genre and genre conventions

  • Composing Processes: planning, researching, drafting, sharing and responding, revising, editing, publishing, reflecting

Warm Up

On your running document for Warm Up's, respond to the following:

  • Brain Dump: Write down anything and everything you are thinking of right now. All the nagging thoughts, the things that are worrying you the most, ideas about the week, what you need to get done. Think of both in school and outside of school.

2nd Genre: FYS Presentation

Let's get into our groups! Let's make some moves...

A. As a group, discuss your individual Intersections project. Your mind map might help with this part.

B. If you haven't done so already, work on the FYS Team Plan (found on Friday's class plan).

  • This project will need to be worked on outside of class. Be honest but don't be difficult about scheduling!

  • Be sure that you are making plans to buy the poster board soon!

C. Work on figuring out the presentation slides.

  • Who still needs to do more work?

  • Do you need to use this time to do research?

Reminders...

A). Looking Ahead

  • Discovery Log #7 (due Sunday, 11/10 by midnight)

  • Portfolio Practice #6 (due Sunday, 11/10 by midnight)

  • Presentation Slides draft (due Monday, by class time)
