-
Persistence is fostered when writers are encouraged to follow through, over time, to complete tasks, processes, or projects
-
Responsibility is fostered when writers are encouraged to act on the understanding that learning is shared among the writer and others—students, instructors, and the institution, as well as those engaged in the questions and/or fields in which the writer is interested.

On your running document for Warm Up's, respond to the following:
-
How do you feel about the grades from the Midterm Portfolio rubric?
-
What about the feedback?
-
Do you think its just or pretty harsh?
-
What do you want to do better for the Final Portfolio?
Genre #2: FYS--Peer Review
We are going to be doing peer review a little different this time...
-
With your groups, get into a circle with another group:
-
Talk through your group's presentation slides with the other group
-
One person should not be speaking for everyone!
-
-
You do not have to give the entire presentation.
-
Perhaps discuss the reasoning of certain decisions your own group made and why you all felt those were appropriate.
-
Or even discuss things your group still needs to work on.
-
Ask for feedback or ideas from the other group.
-
What could be improved?
-
What could be changed? Added?
-
SPEAK to each other and have a conversation. This is considered practice...
-
-
Genre #2: FYS Sign Up
Graded Presentation on November 18
-
You must have your trifold, presentation slides, and oral presentation ready to go!
-
Presenters, please arrive early and prepared. Audience members, please arrive early. Do not walk into class late while another group is presenting or leave class while a presentation is in progress. If you are late, please wait until the group has finished presenting. Also, ALL PHONES NEED TO BE PUT AWAY. GIVE EACH GROUP YOUR UNDIVIDED ATTENTION. Failure to do so is considered discourteous in academic settings.

FYS Presentation Day
-
Be sure to arrive early and be prepared! Find me and I will help you set up.
-
Be sure someone has a laptop that is charged! You will need it for the presentation slides. If there is a problem with who will have a laptop available, speak to me asap!
-
Be sure to take a look at the tips for presenting that are on the class plans every day this week!
Genre #2: FYS Presentation Tips
Tips:
-
Take deep breaths!
-
Write a script for your presentation. Beginning to end for your parts. This definitely does help with understanding how much time you will take to say your part but also that you are addressing what you need to.
-
You are having a conversation with your audience! Do just that...have a conversation.
-
Be sure to have "sexy" titles on your presentation!
-
Be sure that you are focusing on historical context...
-
The way you are connecting to your group members is through the theme.
-
Practice! Practice! Practice!
-
Write our your notes on notecards?
-
Type up your part on a Word document and print out. Cut the section and paste to a notecard.
-
-
Smile!
-
Nothing should be handwritten on the board...
-
Be sure that fonts, pictures, graphs, tables, etc. are at a reasonable size...
-
If you are struggling with something, please tell me!!!
-
Be sure to have at least 3 credible sources for the presentation!
