Warm Up
As a class, let's discuss the First-Year Symposium!
-
What went well?
-
Did you feel prepared?
-
What do you wish you knew about the event before you started preparing?
-
What could I have done better?
-
What did you think overall?
Final Peer Review Session & Final Portfolio Details
A. We are scheduled to have 2 more peer review sessions. However, let's plan for one since we are pressed for time.

We have 2 more major assignments to complete:
-
Final RO
-
Genre #1

What would be the best use of our time? Which one should we focus on? We have already had practice with the RO, so perhaps Genre #1? Or since the Final RO counts for all 3 classes, do you all feel that is something you need more help on?

B. Final Portfolio Details
I am hoping that we can break down the portfolio submission a bit since I will be pressed for grading a lot those last days before final grades are due. So here is what I am asking for:
-
Wednesday, December 4th: Discovery Logs & Engagement & Learning
-
Wednesday, December 11th: Genre #1 and Final RO

C. Some Things...
-
keep track of things in your folder; label everything correctly and organize
-
be sure you have links on documents for online delivery systems
-
be sure to have EVERYTHING in your folder; including midterm items
-
-
create a GSD list of things you have to get done
-
look at the grade breakdown under the Assignments & Due Dates tab
-
-
Be sure to reference your Intersections mind map but it is malleable.
-
As you progress through research, your choices will change and that is ok!
-
If you are struggling with what genre to create, talk to me. I have spoken to several people but not everyone...
-
Be sure that whichever genre you decide to do in some way represents the research you have done and the purpose of Intersections project!
Genre #1 Workshop
Part A. Thinking of the Intersections Project...
Anything that is underlined are links...
Need help figuring out your genre?

Interesting Ideas:

Podcasts (Although some of the following suggestions are particular to the podcast genre, other episodes can help with how to address the situation (audience, purpose, genre). Think of how you can transfer what you learn, by listening to an episode, to what you are trying to accomplish in the Intersections project.)

-
"Michelle Tillis Lederman-On How to Become a Super Connected Person" by Detail Therapy
-
might help with connecting with audience
-

-
"The End of Empathy" by NPR's Invisibilia
-
good discussion on understanding the complexities of an argument; how binaries in arguments can lead to many threads; empathizing with your audience
-

-
Any season from The Thread by Ozy

-

-
"The Shame and Anxiety Behind Cleaning" by Latinx Therapy
-
cultural & gender roles; example of how change occurs in personal situations but also part of a cultural movement
-

Part B. Genre #1 Justification
As part of Genre #1, you will also work on the following to accompany it. This will be a separate document from your Genre #1 (this is NOT Genre #1!)

-
What is your genre?
-
When you discuss the genre/recognizable form you are choosing explain why you are choosing this genre? What does it do for you and your audience? How does it help you achieve your advocacy goals. Furthermore, what are the conventions of the genre and how do you plan on using them.
-
How are you advocating for change?
-
Who is your audience for this genre? Why do they matter?
-
When you say who your audience is explain as much about them as you can. How old are they? how do they get their information on a daily basis? what is their prior knowledge? What will you have to do to understand this group of people in order to communicate with them effectively.
-
-
What is the delivery system for this genre?
-
Are you able to provide research in your genre? Discuss any research that you used from your DL's to support your Genre #1 but may have not been able to include in the genre itself. Be sure to include textual evidence from those sources.
Work! If you have any questions, now is the time to ask...
