Today's Goals

Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate their ability to collaborate effectively as members of diverse teams / groups of writers

  • Evaluate the ways in which they have become a more reflective (mindful, self-aware, thoughtful) writer.

Habits of Mind: 

  • Engagement is fostered when writers are encouraged to make connections between their own ideas and those of others.

  • Curiosity is fostered when writers are encouraged to conduct research using methods for investigating questions appropriate to the discipline

Reading Discussion

On the Google running document for reading discussions, write notes for our discussion. For more information on threshold concepts, click here.  Be sure to use pick out at least one key quotation from your section...

 

In your groups, assign the following roles:

  • speaker 

  • writer

  • researcher

  • support

Discuss the following:

  • Group A: Preface â€‹

  • Group B: Last paragraph on page 2

  • Group C: Metaconcept (pg. 15)

  • Group D: Metaconcept (pg. 16)

  • Group E: What does threshold concept mean? What does it mean by "Naming What We Know?"

Make sure to take notes for our class discussion. Pick a speaker for your group to discuss what your group talked about and the specific areas in the text. However, I will call randomly on people!

​

  • Did you have to reread, highlight, look up anything?

  • What did you do to overcome any obstacles you had while doing the reading? What worked and what didn't? What do you need to do for next Wednesday's reading? 

Reading Response Discussion

  • Do you know how to use the memo template?

  • Do you really have to discuss ALL the concepts?
