Write a response to the following paste the link in the Blackboard Discussion Forum: Warm Up 9/11

  • How does Threshold Concept 1.0 enrich your understanding of the reading we discussed on Friday? (Introduction paragraphs, Preface paragraphs, and Metaconcept)

  • In your own words, explain what TC 1.0 is and how it applies to writing.

  • Reflect on your first weekend back in college. How did you manage your time between school and other things such as work and social life?

If you finish before we are ready to move onto the next part, look over the Course Information. Specifically the Habits of Mind and the Key Terms. Or you can look over the Discovery Log assignment description.

Reading Discussion

In your groups...

  • Compare your reading responses and warm ups.

    • What was something interesting you found?

    • What was confusing or unclear? What made sense?

    • Is the TC 1.0 something new to you or did you already know this? Be ready to point out specific areas in the reading.

As a class...

  • How does this add to our conversation from Friday on Metaconcept and Threshold Concepts?

  • What are some key points from TC 1.0?

Discovery Log Session

In order to prepare for our Situation/Genre Intersection Project, begin working on your first Discovery Log entry!

Step 1: Head to our Discovery Research Log page.

Step 2: Download the template and be sure to follow the instructions.

Step 3: The goal of this entry is to get you to start thinking of the Situation/Genre Intersection Project.  To do this, this entry should focus on the constitution.  What does it permit? What does it prohibit? What is the purpose of the constitution?

A) Read NWWK TC 2.0 (pg.35-37)

B) Copy and past the link from your online document in the Blackboard Discussion Forum: Reading Response #2.

  • Pick two quotes you understand and two quotes that were confusing to you.  Type these quotes out and underneath each quote, write why it made sense to you or why it was confusing.  Provide meaningful reflection here!

C) Be sure to complete your first Discovery log entry.
