  • Research Proposal Peer Review

  • Reminders

Today's Goal

Reflect and integrate learning from learning community courses, including development of critical thinking skills, social and/or personal responsibility.

Warm Up

Download the Midterm Reflection to your Online Folders!

For your Warm Up, spend 10 mins working on your Midterm Reflection. Focus on the Introductory section.

For the sections on Learning Outcomes, be sure to integrate Habits of Mind.

Research Proposal Peer Review and Discovery Log

Upload the link to your Research Proposal to the Discussion Forum: Research Proposal & Peer Review. Peer Review the person I assign you!

  1. Does the student clearly address each section of the research proposal template (Topic/problem/issue, research context, research questions, method, significance, sources) ?

  2. Does the student state what their research area will be?

  3. Does the student offer the audience enough background information to understand the research area they will be looking into?

  4. Does the student use research to support their background/context section?

  5. What can the student write in order to meet the above requirements and to meet the requirements of the template/writing task?

After you read their work, with these questions in mind, offer the student 2-3 pieces of feedback using the Reply function in Blackboard.  Your feedback should be specific and actionable. Moreover, your feedback should include a "because clause," meaning you should always offer a clear reason for your suggestions/feedback. Feedback should focus on "higher-order" issues such as structure, developing examples, etc.

Your feedback should help the author expand and explain their attempts to make meaning from the texts. Avoid commenting on grammar and spelling, and avoid non-actionable comments like "make this clearer," or "This is good/bad," etc.

Discovery Log #2 or 3?

Work on another Discovery Log entry by finding more sources for your topic. Focus on finding legit sources. Avoid encyclopedia entries, Wikipedia, blogs, etc.

Reminders...

A) Keep working on your Research Proposal.

B) Work on your next Discovery Log.

C) Keep working on your Midterm Reflection.
